What Parents Say About Our Schools
We have been part of the DMKTC community since August 2014 when our son started K1. From that day until his last day in K3 he came home from school happy and eager to share what he’d learnt every day. His teachers, classroom / teaching assistants and aunties were all caring and nurturing and helped him grow both academically and socially. The bilingual class environment set a great foundation for his Mandarin skills. The school encourages learning through play, however there is also a focus on academics which is great preparation for both local and international primary schools.
In our experience, the teachers and admin staff are always available to help with any queries and respond quickly and pleasantly.
It was because of our son’s enjoyable time and our positive experience with DMKTC that we decided to enroll our daughter there. This is her second year at the school, and despite the school closures she is still learning and thriving thanks to the fantastic home learning provided by her teachers.
DMKTC has provided a safe, stimulating and fun environment for both our children to learn and grow in – we hope it continues to do the same for many others.
Our Daughter has grown in leaps and bounds both academically and sociably thanks to the professional and caring Staff at DMK DB. The curriculum has assisted her to understand herself and others, her teachers Miss Joyce and Miss Emma have been exceptional. We are truly grateful for all DMK DB offered us, thank you!
Dear DMK school teachers and all,
I’m Lia’s mother and I’d like to share the wonderful experience Lia and I have with DMK. Lia joined the Discovery Mind playgroup when she was 1 and a half old, at that time she was still wearing diper and not knowing very well vocabulary. Time flies, 4 years after, last Saturday was Lia’s K3 grudarion ceremony. She participated the performance and played a role as teacher, she was so confident to play the role and read the scripts in both English and Chinese in front of over 100 audience without sweating, and I can see the children at the class bonding to each other well and they helped and coordinate with each other.
It is amazed to see how she has developed as a confident and happy child, can speak, read and write both English and Chinese, there isn’t a single day I heard she doesn’t want to go to school, she also shared with me what she learnt from school, like being a responsible person, save the environment, how to grow a plant, things about volcano and rocket. She enjoyed doing the homework, it only takes her 15 – 30 mins to finish, longer time it needs cos she wants to draw and color the homework. Although the amount of homework is minimal, she has been learning and understanding things more than just vocabulary.
It is also a delightful and memorable experience the school let the parents to do volunteer work. I read books with the children of the class Lia is in at K3, I saw them improving week by week, from no idea of how phonic works to reading words and then sentences, I was so amazed how the school and the class teachers have done, that the children have such a big improvement in just a few months. it’s also so beautiful to see the children are helping each other out, I remember a child who’s new to the school and she was quite shy, and English was not her major language before joining DMK, another classmate helped her to translate and the other took her hand and lead her to the area where we read books together. I was so touched to see the bonding, care and love they have to each other. To be honest, there are time they argue or upset about one and other, but from those incidents they also learn how to deal with another person, apologies, forgiveness as they grow.
I need to say a big thank you to Ms Michelle. I remember the first day I went to the playgroup, she paid attention to all the parents and children, she remembers all our names and spent time to talk to us genuinely. At times I have difficulties about the pick up arrangements, she sincerely talked with me to understand and found ways to help us out. At DMK, you feel it is a big family, a community, it’s close and its sincere, also you feel safe and comfortable of how they treat the children.
I also remember the K3 graduation ceremony, the class teacher Ms Marilyn, Ms Sunny and other staff working at the school were so touched with the children of how they become, some even had tears for the whole ceremony. It surprised me how much they care and love they have for the children. Even Ms Michelle has been with the school for years witnesses so many children to grow, she still have a big heart and care of every child, tears in her eyes when she talks about the children, how proud she is for them.
When I talked with other parents, most of them are so glad to send their children to DMK and some even wished they could join the kindergarten earlier.
I can say words are never enough to express my gratitude to the DMK, to all the staff, from class teacher, the admin. Staff, the aunties for their love and care to my child, we were at the good hands of you all and it means so much to the future to us and especially my child who has built a strong foundation at DMK not only academic but about being a good, responsible, love, caring and confident person.
I am sad and a bit nervous about the day we finish the kindergarten after these 4 years and need to move on but as Ms Michelle always said, it is not the end, we will always see each other and the school welcomes the parents or children to come back and catch up anytime.
I wish the kindergarten all the best and keep their value of how to grow the children.
See you all soon
Our son has been attending Discovery Mind Kindergarten, Discovery Bay for 2.5 years now and absolutely loves it, so much so that on weekends and school holidays he asks how many more sleeps until he can go to school again.
Having volunteered for some time now to read with the children in our son’s class once a week I have had the pleasure of seeing the ins and outs of their day first hand. The genuine affection displayed by the teachers on a daily basis to not only our son but to all of the children is heart warming to see, as is their dedication to making learning as fun and interactive as possible. It’s also the little things like having the teacher come outside at pick-up to tell us something funny our son had done at school that day, how much he makes her laugh or how he interacts with his classmates that really goes above and beyond.
Through the teacher’s guidance and structured activities we have seen our sons confidence soar both socially and scholastically. For someone of only 4 years old his writing and reading skills are outstanding, and his passion for arts and crafts is encouraged daily as evidenced by the proud look on his face when he brings his creations home every Friday.
We cannot thank staff enough for the wonderful experience they’ve provided for our son to date and recommend Discovery Mind Kindergarten with the highest regard.
My two children both attended Discovery Mind Kindergarten (DMK) international stream in the Discovery Bay Branch. They both had wonderful time here. What impressed me most is that the teachers and staff create a caring, encouraging and friendly atmosphere, in which the psychological wellbeing and educational needs of each child are addressed at the same time. The learning process is utterly stress-free for both kids and parents, preserving the kids’ natural curiosity and creativity with great learning outcome achieved.
Under the positive influence and guidance of teachers, staff, fellow classmates and their parents, my kids have built up their character strengths of self-confidence, social intelligence and love of learning. I cannot thank DMK enough for providing such a nurturing embrace for my kids to flourish.

We have been delighted with Miles’s progress at DMK, despite missing the first five months of K3, he has a gained a love of learning with his reading and writing coming along in leaps and bounds. He is always writing little notes and although not everything is spelt correctly it shows his understanding of words phonetically. We truly believe his accomplishments are now way ahead of what they would be in reception class back in the UK.
We are incredibly grateful for your time, patience and kindness you have always shown Miles, you are an asset to DMK and we wish you all the best for the future K3 classes.
Our kindest regards
How time flies! Johnson has already been in DMK for one and half years, now he is going to graduate from DMK. Johnson had a great time both with his classmates and teachers. At the time we just came to Discovery Bay, Johnson was reluctant to go to school. He was crying every morning for going to school. But now he likes to go to school everyday. I would like to give my thank to Miss Margot, she is a very experienced teacher and very good at academic teaching. Thank to Michele, she seems to know every students in the DMK and is always nice to everyone. Thanks to staffs at administration office, they are very helpful once we need their assistance. Our family had a great time being with DMK. Thanks to you all!
We are truly grateful for the staff and teachers at Discovery Mind Kindergarten. Not only is the education incredible, but the character values they teach really helped our daughter thrive in every way possible. All the students are supported, safe and happy – and learning a great deal to prepare them for their future in all subjects! We couldn’t have been happier with the school.
I just wanted to share a quick note about DMK. My boys are going to DMK. I’m happy how profound and exciting the journey is for them. They are able to teach and nurture the kids in a manner of respect to their choices. My older one William reads very well when he was 5 1/2 years. And had enjoyed the two years he spent in DMK. I was impress how he was able to gain confidence through building and painting. He was definitely learning well.
Andrew who started K1 loves his class and able to catch up and learning with older kids. Teachers communicates with the parents well.
All in all I am glad I send my kids to DMK. This a very good school to start in early ages.
Teachers and staff has been excellent and we value there support throughout the years.
“Both our kids have been attending Discovery Mind with the age of 15 months in the accompanied playgroup. Right from the beginning all
teachers have been so welcoming and especially Miss Joyce and Miss Candy have been excellent in helping both our kids to settle. Now they
are always excited to head off to “school” in the morning and rush in happily everyday with scarcely time for a “goodbye mum” as they go
off to explore and learn new things.”
“We’ve trusted DMK with three children. They were all happy to go to school and smiling when we picked them up. The teachers always did a fantastic job motivating the students and creating an environment to develop confidence. I will always be grateful to this school.”
P.S. my older kids still miss DMK!! Thank you all for what you do!
DMK still has a high standard of education and we are very happy with our son’s progress from Playgroup to K3.
We are happy to see a continuous improvement in Adrian’s approach toward his social life and his educational path. We believe DMK did a great job so far.
Lovely positive learning experience. Kids treated well and encouraged to develop their skills.
Victor is very happy to be attending the DMK. He has improved his skills in English and Chinese a lot!
My Husband and I really appreciate whole DB DMK people, especially English and Chinese teacher in his class. They try to help my son to catch up what he needs to do, how work on the workbooks everything.
I really feel it was right decision to send him to DMK at DB. He loves studying here and we love everyone in DMK at DB.
Thank you!
When our son joined Y2 at DMPS, he had difficulties in a number of areas like keeping focused, having a meaningful conversation, social skills and the occasional meltdown. The love, care, and support from his teachers, school staff, and the Principal, have changed all these. We have seen marked improvements in all those troubled areas. Now in Y3, not only is he able to interact with his schoolmates but always joyful at school and at home. When we see him looking forward to attending school everyday, we know we are so lucky to have chosen DMPS for him.
We are delighted to have enrolled our daughter at DMPS for its tailored approach to a broad based education. When we first arrived in Hong Kong, we were worried about the challenges she would face in a new environment with her unique educational background. Fast forward a few weeks, we knew our daughter was well supported in her academic and social learning needs, manifested by her vast improvements we have witnessed in academic results and social demeanour. At any school, the teachers form the fabric of the school and we are thrilled by the dedication and professionalism they bring to their work in providing a positive and supportive learning environment. All in all, an excellent international school with outstanding teachers and a great community.
When we moved to Tung Chung (& Hong Kong) 5 years ago, our immediate concern was finding a good International School close to home. Our kids were 9 and 5 then, and we did not want them to travel far for Primary and Kindergarten respectively. DMPS was an automatic choice.
When we went to drop our 9 y.o. to school on his first day, we were pleasantly surprised to see the principal walking about, talking to the kids, greeting them by their first name. This was a very welcoming sight for us, especially our son, who instantly felt at ease. The tradition continues to-date, and it is wonderful to see the kids comfortably chat and share a laugh with the teachers and senior leadership at the start of the day. It also speaks volumes of the safe and nurturing environment the school provides. And also the main reason why we decided to enroll our younger one a year later.
We love the school’s unconventional approach to learning. For e.g., they celebrate World Book Day where kids dress up as their favorite story book characters – promoting healthy reading habits. Students are also encouraged to publish their writing work online, thus making them tech savvy. The IPC curriculum is structured to include a lot of project work. This gives kids a platform to learn working in teams – identifying individual strengths, working collaboratively, leadership and presentation opportunities – all essential life-skills. We also like that the class sizes are small, so the teacher is attentive to every child’s progress and learning needs. It helps that learning objectives are sent home weekly, ensuring parents stay up to date.
Second, the diverse student community cultivates a healthy respect and appreciation for various cultures and ethnicities. Both our kids are confident, socially adaptable and tolerant, thanks to this early exposure. We find these qualities were of immense help when our older one transitioned to Secondary school.
The school invests a lot in engaging the parent community, from informative sessions like Literacy and Numeracy workshops to leisure activities like family hikes and picnics.
Our son loves it here. It’s a pleasure to see him bouncing off the bed every morning looking forward to going to school. Thank you, DMPS!
Both our children have attended Discovery Mind since they were 15 months old in both Discovery Bay and Tung Chung. We are so pleased with the school and the individual development of both children throughout this time.
Our son who is now in K2 has amazed us with his reading and writing skills and his love for learning and our daughter who is currently in pre-nursery has become so much more confident and independent and whenever she comes home from school she is always so proud to show us her artwork.
The teachers do such a wonderful job encouraging each child’s personal development and we especially love the teacher/parent communication from the school through weekly reports and photos.
We love the great sense of community within the school and the various activities the school organises throughout the year such as bake sales, party days, school picnics, and the annual charity walk, fundraiser and Christmas concert.
We feel that the international and diverse environment at Discovery Mind is really special. We love the interaction our children are able to have with other children of various cultures and backgrounds, and that they are able to learn, appreciate and respect the differences between such cultures and backgrounds.
The head of school Ms Kabeeta Gurung is always so welcoming and gives a personal touch whenever she deals with the children and parents.
We love being part of the DMK Community! Our children have absolutely thrived under the guidance of such passionate, experienced and empathic teachers.
The inclusive and dynamic school community ensured our family were warmly welcomed and immediately engaged in a range of activities to support the school and the wider Tung Chung community.
Our son started DMK in playgroup and is now in the kindergarten section. We have loved watching his amazing journey through pre-school. The teachers have gone the extra mile to make him feel safe and happy. He is now confident and enjoys learning, telling us about his days activities when we pick him up.
It’s been a pleasure to be a part of the DMK community, and we would recommend DMK Tung Chung to anyone.
DMK has proved a wonderful environment for both my children from the ages of 18 months through till when they were ready to progress onto Primary school.
As different as both my children are, we found they both really thrived at DMK Tung Chung.
We loved the focus during playgroup on the early development of social skills, using eye contact, manners and learning how to show respect towards their peers and teachers. In K1 & K2 these skills were further developed along with the beginnings of learning so much about the world around them. My kids loved learning from such a huge range of topics, most especially they enjoyed learning about different cultural festivals celebrated all over the world and people in our community who help us. Visits the to the local police station, fire fighters that came into the class room and excursions to science museums were a few highlights!
In K2 we really appreciated the structure of the DMK syllabus in regards to helping children identify letters and make beginnings on early reading through the school phonics program. It was amazing to see how quickly they progressed and how much enthusiasm they shared for learning to read and write new sounds each week.
The teaching staff at DMK are nurturing, caring, and make learning fun. They have a genuine interest in developing your child’s mind and they do this compassionately and at each child’s individual pace. The communication between teachers and parents is open and honest and the school strives to involve all parents regularly through school outings and excursions, sports days, charity and cultural events. It’s a great community to be a part of!
We highly recommend DMK. Both our children have attended from Tworiffic until K2 and benefited from the exceptionally high teaching standards. The school has a warm, welcoming environment for both students and parents. The classrooms are bright and colourful and the playroom is great. We have always been impressed that every member of staff knows our children and greets them whenever they see them. We like the academic focus on phonics and the school’s ability to make learning fun, teaching students to develop a love of reading at an early age.
We like the fact that the school encourages parents to become involved in their child’s education, for example, by coming into class to talk about their profession or assisting with phonics work. The weekly newsletter and photos are also an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of what your child has learnt over the past week. The school produces excellent results, focusing on students’ emotional as well as intellectual development, enabling them to gain confidence in a fully supported learning environment.
Thank you for always smiling and offering help when Yau Yau walks in the door of school. You make her feel welcomed, loved and safe. She loves school so much, she loves all of you! Thanks for believing in our daughter and helping her believe in her own abilities. You are great teachers who have a big heart and a desire to make the world a better place, one kid at a time.
As parents, sometimes we worry because our child never comes to us for advice and guidance. But our worries are soon laid to rest when we remind ourselves that our child seeks advice and guidance from the best source possible- a teacher like you, many thanks!
Dean and I would like to thank you for taking wonderful care of Olivia’s development and personal needs in her time spent with you at pre-nursery.
The transition from her previous less structured playgroup was seamless and we felt safe in the knowledge that we definitely made the right decision in doing so. There hasn’t been a day when Olivia hasn’t wanted to come to school and we always take pleasure in hearing what she has been doing and names all of you individually.
We couldn’t have asked for better development care and attention to detail and would not hesitate in recommending DMK to others. We can’t quite believe how quickly the time has passed as we transition to DMK Kindergarten and are safe in the knowledge that we have set Olivia on the right learning path.
I always feel warmhearted from the staff, it’s a great school with people who are very involved in children’s life with love and care. Lia was always happy to go to school and she improved her language and skills quickly in different ways. I would like to give a special thanks for the staff who have been always cooperative and helpful. It’s a good school to make kids confident for their first approach into school education. Great Job!! Thanks Again.
Our children have all thoroughly enjoyed their time at Discovery Mind. They are always very happy to arrive at school. I’ve been impressed with their introduction to Mandarin and they are confident in their singing and counting! I would highly recommend the school to any parents looking for a good start to educating their children.
